This is an exceptional hand carved plump Dove Decoy on a "Stump" Stand. I am guessing it is Circa: second quarter of the 1900s.
The Dove is hand carved wood with a metal bill and very nicely painted with a few chips here and there from use many years ago. There is either a crack in the tail or the tail was broken and reglued. It is the original tail and this does not detract from this great piece as the repair was well done. The Stand is made in the shape of a tree stump and even has a faux knot on the side. (last picture).
I had one rigmate to this Dove years ago and I believe this is the nicer of the two. I do not know who the carver was, but he carved an exceptional Dove Decoy. Dove decoys are pretty rare and sought after and this one is one of the nicest I have owned.
It is approx 9 3/4 inches from the tip of the bill to the tip of the tail. It is approx 9 3/4 inches tall on the Stump.
