This antique miniature flying Mallard duck is probably the oldest miniature I have ever owned. It was found near Baltimore Maryland and is approx. 8 inches long, 8 1/2 inch wingspan and 7 1/2 inches high.
This wonderful miniature has old original gatored paint and is very old. I am guessing Circa:1900. It is carved out of pine and is very dry and light. This is a very realistic looking flying Mallard and has shelf wear. There is a tail feather piece broken from one side of the tail. (See Pics)
I do not know who the carver was, but he knew what he was doing. I suspect it is an upper bay carver and I am not familiar with the minis of the early upper Chesapeake Bay Carvers.
