PW1789 - Very old attributed to Lake Chautauqua New York Pike Fish Decoy
This very old Pike Decoy is approx 11 inches long and I believe in fine old patinated original paint. It has very finely carved gills and mouth and the eyes have shell inserts which is a Native American trait. It has many round lead weight inserts in the bottom and has a wooden carved original top fin and anal fin which could be an old replacement. The tail has been broken at one time and could be restored, but I like to leave them the way I find them...as original as possible. The small side tin fins are old replacements.
I was told this decoy was from the Lake Chautauqua region of New York State. It is one of only a very few eastern Fish Decoys I have owned.
